We fully charged a 2022 Jaguar I-Pace EV400 HSE before taking it out on the highway to perform the InsideEVs 70-mph highway range test and see just how far the luxurious electric Jaguar will go. Jaguar made some improvements to the I-Pace for the 2022 model year, but the vehicle retains the same 90 kWh (total capacity) battery pack, of which 84.7 kWh is usable, as previous model years. The 2022 I-Pace hasn't been officially range-certified by the EPA, so we're using the 2021 figure of 234 miles for comparison. The Jaguar I-Pace first appeared in 2019. It was the brand’s first EV but it didn’t capture the hearts & minds of customers due to its high price and low driving range. For 2022, Jaguar has given the I-Pace a few updates to keep it relevant in a fast paced (no pun intended) automotive segment that changes as often as cell phones do. One thing that hasn’t changed for 2022 is the powertrain of the Jaguar I-Pace. It’s still propelled by two electric motors (one in the front and one in the rear) which have a combined output of 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque (294 kW & 694 Nm). With the SUV tipping the scales at 2,208 kg (4,868 lbs), the 0-100km/h time is around the 4.5 second mark. That is around the same ballpark figure as the BMW iX which has a little bit more power but also weighs a lot more than this I-Pace. Another item that remains the same for 2022 is the battery pack. It is still 90 kWh and the EnerGuide (EPA equivalent here in Canada) driving range is 357 km (222 miles). That is quite a bit less than some of its competitors like the Ford Mach-E or BMW iX. But even with the shorter driving range, it’s a fairly efficient EV. The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace is not a cheap EV. The Jaguar I-Pace, along with the Tesla Model X is one of the original Electric SUVs. Over the last 4 years we have seen a number of new EV SUVs including the Audi e-tron, the BMW iX and iX3, the Mercedes EQB along with many others. Thankfully in 2022, if you're searching for a high end premium SUV and you want it to be electric, you're spoiled for choice. With a range of 470km (WLTP) the I-Pace can certainly go the distance, butt it's how it travels that is exciting. Like all EVs, the torque is exhilaratingly high meaning that it pushes you into your seat like there's no tomorrow. That combined with a well balanced and relatively low centre of gravity makes it a really driver focused car. It's available with air suspension which is certainly worth considering if you're looking for a smoother drive, specially if you opt for some 20"+ alloy wheels. Being a Jaguar, the fit and finish is excellent, and it gives us a real insight into Jaguar's future as they intend to fully focus on being more premium and prestigious than they already are, not to mention going fully electric in the very near future. Jaguar i Pace | Why Nobody Is Buying The EV World's Car The Jaguar I-Pace made headlines at the New York International Auto Show by winning the World Car of the Year Award and the organization's awards for Design of the Year and Green Car of the Year. However, the I-Pace isn't winning where it counts: at the dealership. The Jaguar all-electric crossover SUV has sold just 608 units in the U.S. through March plus another 393 late last year. Meanwhile, Tesla has sold an estimated 3,850 Model X crossovers, as tallied by InsideEVs, through the first three months of 2019. Looking at these numbers and the kind of fame these vehicles are getting, buyers are confused about how nobody is buying the electric world car of the year. It's been two years since Jaguar Land Rover introduced the I-Pace EV.
