#subscribe Heritage Story– The Celestial Flute Player – Khajuraho Vishvanath Temple – With his wonderous hands, the sculptor presents the audience with the back-facing Devangna/ Sursundari celestial maiden playing the flute engraved high on the temple wall. When the celestial maiden blows into the flute, the hollow bamboo instrument (symbolizing the heart) come to life with her energy. The musical notes appear to blow in the wind. The sculptor seeks to capture the rasa or the mood by sculpting the body of the Sursundari in the Tribhang or the three-bend lyrical form and aligns it with the flowing drape of her scarf, making the audience hear the Music from the stone.
