If you've been watching my channel or doing SEO for a while, you've probably heard this over and over again. Back links have a big correlation with rankings and traffic from Google. But acquiring legitimate backlinks from authoritative websites, or even small ones, is becoming harder and harder each day. You send out hundreds, if not thousands, of cold emails but often, less than 1% of the people will link back to you. So what should you do? Today I'm going to teach you how to get backlinks from any site, big or small. So, how do you go about creating enough value to get people to link back to you, right? It's all about your pitch. A simple way of doing this and offering value is by fixing something wrong with their website. If you help them do this, there's a good chance that they're more likely to link to you. Another way to add value is tell them that you have infographics or guides that's related to content on their website and can provide value to their readers as well. So, action step for you. Choose one value added angle and start building a list of websites that you could target with the angle. And then send them personalized emails to each site that you want to pitch. Now, as it turns out, just creating regular old content won't always do justice and you're probably not going to get results from that. You also want to create ultimate guides. You also want to offer templates, checklists. This helps people get action when they're strapped for time throughout the day. So those type of contents are also easier to get links from. Now, let's go over the second point. The second point is about finding the right person to contact. Sometimes finding the right person to contact is really tough and you're just like, wait I go to the contact page, I can't find the right person. They don't have their email, they just have a form. I've tried that, it's not working well. Well, there's some other methods that you can use to find the right person to go after, other than just the contact page. The first thing I want you to try is take a personal approach. That's your best shot at finding the right person to get in touch with. You can also go check out author bios on their blog. This will give you idea because either that person's the right person to contact and you can go research them on LinkedIn or they'll know who the right person is because they got their content published on that site. You can also use Chrome extensions to find the right information of the prospects that you're going after, right? So, Chrome extensions are a really easy way to find the correct email address. Instead of manually looking up pages and spending hours, there's a few extensions that make life easy for you. And here are they. They're hunter.io, VoilaNorbert, and you can use Find That Email. But, it'll get you in touch. And that introduction usually has a high conversion point because it was a intro versus a cold outreach. Now third, it's all about crafting a relevant, personalized message. Based on your value added angle, compose a message and see which parts that it could be personalized in a unique way that'll help get peoples attention. I want you to create a spreadsheet that you're going to fill in with the details of all the people that you're going to hit up, as well as the message that you use for each website. You're going to keep track of who responded back, who ignored you, the follow ups once you respond to them, giving them the link, did they actually add the link? All this is really important because you know where to follow up. Think of link building as sales. It's all about the follow up. Now, here's a script and breakdown. First sentence needs to grab their attention. Point out the issues that you notice on their site. Second sentence, provide a solution backd by stats. Let them know how it can help them. Third, ask for a connection. Broken links and broken backlinks can hurt your website’s organic rankings in Google. But there’s an easy way to find and fix all of these SEO issues. Using Ahrefs’ broken link checker reports, you can find both of these fast. Note: This tool is a part of Ahrefs’ Site Explorer tool which also lets you see a website’s backlink profile and the organic keywords a website ranks for. More details here: 🤍 So what’s the difference between a broken link and a broken backlink? A broken link is when a page on your website is linking to some other page that no longer exists. This is bad for two reasons: 1. It’s creates a bad user experience. When people click a link on your website, they’re redirected to content that no longer exists. 2. Google checks every link on your page. Once it sees that some of them lead them nowhere, it will value your page less because it’s apparently linking to some really outdated pages. A broken backlink is when another site is linking to a page on your website that no longer exists. This kind of link doesn’t send you any link juice or help you to rank better in Google’s search results. To fix broken links, you can update your pages with more up-to-date resources, or remove them completely. For broken backlinks, you have a couple of options. First, you can recreate the page that was previously on your website so the backlinks are no longer broken. If the page is no longer relevant, you can create a 301 redirect that links back to another relevant page on your website. This way, you will continue to maintain some of the link equity. But how is creating a blog post and link building connected? There are a few facets to this. One, content quality. It’s easier to get links to a piece of high-quality content than one that’s mediocre. Two, search intent. Why are people searching for the topic? Do the searchers have the ability and power to link to your site? Third, timing. Even if you have an amazing blog post, it doesn’t equate to links if it reaches people at the wrong time. With the three facets explained, how do you turn that into a formula for writing a blog post that will attract links? The first thing to do is to find a topic that is “link-worthy”. You’ll learn how to do this in the video. After you’ve found the topic you want to target, the next thing to do is to create the blog post. In this case, we’re trying to create a stats page. But it’s tough to make a page of stats truly standout amongst other pages. They’re all going to be curated lists and there’s definitely going to be overlap between competing pages. So, how do you make one that’s different and people want to link to? You’ll learn the exact steps we followed to create the perfect stats blog post in the video. You see all these people and all these websites that have thousands and thousands of links and they're ranking on page one of Google. And you ask yourself, hmm, if I want to rank on page one of Google, do I really need thousands of links? RESOURCES & LINKS: Ubersuggest: 🤍 As you can see on my screen here, I have the key word, web hosting Google. It's getting roughly 18,100 searches a month in the United States. I'm using the Ubersuggest Chrome extension which gives me all this data. As well, it tells me how many times it's searched on mobile devices versus desktop devices, the volume over time, cost per click, the demographic information, the searchers age range. Gives me all of that as well as a handful of other key word suggestions on the right side and more metrics on the right side on how much traffic websites getting, their overall domain authority or domain score and as you keep going on and on, you'll get more key word data. But when you look at these sites that are ranking on page one, and if I look at the first four, they're ads, GoDaddy, Bluehost, DreamHost, HostGator, all well known brands, then you got PCMag, Hostinger, TechRadar, Bluehost, CNET, GoDaddy, SiteGround, Network Solutions and QuickSprout. Those are the pages that are ranking in the top ten. So you have to look at how many links are actually follow, not just the total link count. The point I'm tryna make is, the more lower you go, the more these scraper sites and junk links that you'll see. So typically what we're seeing is, whatever the number that you're seeing in Referring Domain names, usually, if you end up building a third to a fourth, even a fifth of the links that are reported, you can do quite well. And the key if you want to rank is, you don't have to build a lot of links, you want to build legitimate links, you don't want to pay for 'em, you don't want to use anything that's black at, you want natural, good links. Do your outreach, look for, don't focus too much on domain rating or domain authority or anything like that, just focus on building legitimate, high quality links and do it in a very, very slow pace. And I know that may sound crazy, you're thinking, slow pace? If I need all these links, don't I have to keep building? Well if you build too fast, what you'll find is you're going to have to build too many links like some of these sites, right? It's like those social profiles that have hundreds and thousands of followers but no one really engages, it's because they have a lot of fake followers. If you build quote, unquote unnatural links or you're buying 'em, what you'll find is your rankings won't be as great compared to if you just focus on highly relevant articles that are slow and steady. The other thing that most people don't talk about is click through rate. The reason that some of the sites that rank up at top, that are higher, is because they have a way higher click through rate. You're going to get way more clicks if you have the best web hosting services of 2020, which reviews a lot of the websites that are ranking in the top ten, right? So when you're pitching one solution, versus something that's a review, more educational, you'll find that it tends to be easier to rank and you don't have to build as many links. So you don't just need to focus on how many links you're getting, but you also need to optimize for click throughs and anything that is resourceful, educational, helpful, tends to also rank better. So when you're doing your back link research, whether using Ubersuggest or whether using Moz, or Ahrefs, or SEMrush to look up link counts, remember, whatever people have, a lot of those links are scraper sites, spammy links, it's not that these sites are building spammy links, it's that you naturally get spammy links coming to you when you've been on the web for so long.
